The safe area thread does not have this marked.

Anyone know what kind of area this is?
I just booked an apartment online via Airbnb.com right here.

Can I walk the street at 3AM waving cash around???

Can my 2 and 3 year old children play on the street at 4AM without me present?

Its okay, but I think the areas around zip codes 11212 or 10029 is a lot better/safer if you want to wave cash around at 3am or have your kids play in the street all night. You should consider those areas instead.

Someone has to live in the area.
Are there really that few humans left?

I used to work at 152 Madison. It's pretty much a business area. You have Korean town nearby. It's a safe area.

Can my 2 and 3 year old children play on the street at 4AM without me present? Uh, what? 179 Madison is not really a family oriented area. It's a business area. You will have to walk a few blocks to a playground. https://www.google.com/maps/place/17...eeb8df!6m1!1e1

That was all joking. In reality I have terrible insomnia so I am going to be walking around in the middle of the night. Is there 24 hour stuff around this area?

I rented someones apartment for 5 months.

What matters most for me is that I can walk around at 2-5AM without fearing I am going to be robbed. Its a huge plus if there is stuff to do at that time and if anything is open.

Thank you for answering

Yes, it's safe. Obviously there's always a chance of something happening, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just be aware. As far as stuff to do, not sure, but you have a subway right nearby and cabs all over, 24/7 (there's an area very popular with cab drivers a few blocks away where they always stop to get Indian food -- I think it's on 33rd and Lex but I could be wrong on the intersection) so even if the place you want to go is a little further away, you can get around very easily at all hours.

Here's one place where cab drivers go, even at 3 am, for food nearby http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/13/ny...g-cabbies.html

Safe area but I don't think there's a lot going on in the middle of the night since the area is mostly commercial buildings. If you walk to Third Ave and go south a couple of blocks there's plenty of bars and whatnot.

That's K-town/Herald Sq/Penn Station. Good for work, transportation, and mostly safe. Has Korean places that open late into the night. Non-Korean businesses will be closed then. Korean places are somewhat pricey, but it's all relative I guess. You might have intoxicated people coming out of bars, restaurants, and karaoke, but nothing really too bad. Next time, it would be a good idea to check a place out before committing to living there for 5 months.
