I don't think Republicans would do that. If anything, Republicans would eliminate anything that's income required and apply free markets, where costs would (and should) rise when demand is high.

The transplants moving here seem to grow more annoying with each passing day. And I'M a transplant. In my experience the ones who move because they want a "real" environment have no idea what they are in store for... and leave quickly. The same ones who dis a sanitation job, when in reality it's a coveted position. Then they complain about how expensive everything is. Act superior when in reality they have limited educations, if any. Try to pretend to be gifted "misunderstood" artists. Call others out as crazy, when in truth they are freakin' nuts. You can always tell the little insular bubbles they came from. They seem to believe anything or anyone different than them is weird. And then they come to NY with these unfounded elitist attitudes, not realizing the people they laugh at are doing 100 times better than them.

But everything you said indicates that you are not, in fact, an actual transplant.

It doesn't just mean someone from somewhere other than New York. Lots of interesting people have always moved here from elsewhere. Nothing wrong with that.

A transplant is someone who stays essentially the same - by extension, preserving as well all of that oh-so- compelling middle America culture - even once they are situated somewhere else.

Think about a plant. It doesn't change when it gets "transplanted." It might get bigger and more obtrusive but it fundamentally stays the same.

This is the actual meaning of "transplant."

By now much of the culture of the well off parts of NYC is Middle America. Ditto for certain poor neighborhoods they have a certain amount of whites they have moved in. NYC has changed to match them. Real estate redevelopment, national chains coming in, etc.

As I have said before, as the business capital of the nation all NYC cares about is your money. What your culture is, where you were born is entirely irrelevant.

The parts of NYC without heavy middle America migrant influences are those that are predominately IMMIGRANT.
