The problem is the proliferation of clinics and the considerable number of social service housing buildings. This is true everywhere in Central Harlem.

Makes more? Somehow I doubt it. As for living better, I'd say she made a poor choice. I'd give up a lot in the way of money to do what I loved. I don't see how any woman could love taking off her clothes for a bunch of slavering pervos. (She claimed that Hunter S Thompson was a regular) Perhaps she got off on it in some way. Dunno, I'm male.
Yes makes more over time definitely considering botanists work at major institutions like universities. In the end they get benefits for ncluding retirement. Sex work is mostly for people unable to easily get anything else and is just fast bucks. It's kind of like people think bartenders make a lot of money but they don't.

Looks like that Law&Order is hitting the TS pretty seriously lately

NYPD to Disney and Marvel: Get Minnie Mouse and Spider Man out of Times Square

New York's police chief is asking Disney and Marvel to crack down on the costumed hustlers of Times Square, but the companies aren't responding.

Times Square is populated by a variety of rogue characters plying tourists for money. Some of these characters, like Minnie Mouse and Spider Man, are trademarks of Disney (DIS) or Marvel (which is owned by Disney.)

The NYPD confirmed to CNNMoney that Commissioner Bill Bratton asked Disney and Marvel to sue for copyright infringement. But according to the NYPD, the companies aren't biting.
But Disney spokeswoman Zenia Mucha said her company's been trying a different approach, though without success.
"We have been for years working with previous and current administrations as well as the city council trying to get legislation passed that would require registration and identification of these costumed characters," she said.

Neither Disney, Marvel or any of the other copyright holders of said images want to get involved in this mess. It would be a PR nightmare and unless NYC is going to reimburse legal fees (as there sure is to be court action) they are wise to stay out of it.

I know that the NYPD has better things to do, but maybe, they can throw in a few undercover cops once in a while and make some arrests or give out some citations for those who panhandle. It might discourage those who are not career Minnie Mice and just come out during tourist season. Not sure if it might traumatize some 6 year old tourist to see Mickey and Minnie arrested but enough is enough.

A Rodney Dangerfield joke:
I saw this bar. The sign outside said "TOPLESS! ... BOTTOMLESS!". I went inside. There was no one there!"

NYC's courts and jails are full of "quality of life" arrests that do nothing but clog up the system and potentially ruin persons lives. This is behind Bill de Boob's and the City Council's various bills or whatever against mandatory cash bail for minor offenses and so forth.

Persons have been locked away on Riker's for days, weeks, months and in some cases years because they couldn't raise a measly $1k bail money, this all before they are even tried. Once a day in court comes a good percentage of those cases are either thrown out and or defendants found not guilty. In the meanwhile while being locked away in jail they have lost their jobs, children, and suffered the ills of being kept in a very violent place.

NYPD loves making arrests because if done well it can lead to some good OT. DA's office and the courts OTOH who have to deal with the aftermath are another story.

My main thought when they walk up to and by me on Timesquare is “What about the children & why should their parents, many unaware that this is allowed have to explain to their small child who just had naked breasts over, next to their little heads as the women aggressively make sure they thrust them freely at everyone walking down the street?” The children can’t (Un-See) the naked breasts.

They're breasts.

I've seen some horrendously unattractive faces in this city bordering on the obscene, but the law says I can't force them to cover up--and as an American, I both follow the law and respect their personal liberties and freedoms.
