Thanks guys. Its between Riis park in Queens and Midland Beach in Staten Island. Is the Staten Island one accessible via public transportation? I'd be coming from Jackson Heights, so would that make the Riis Park better?
Also, in case my girl does decide to do more than just seek a quiet spot on the beach, would there be basketball courts and handball courts in Riis park? What time do they start getting filled up by students? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Riis but all the way to the right side, you can be quiet. But, better hope the planes are not routed over the beach that day, takeoffs from JFK are every 30 seconds all day, and that is terribly annoying to listen to on the beach, as it was the last time i went there.
the sand at midland beach is sort of orangeish, went biking along the trials there a few weekend ago and the sand was still orange like i remembered it from the 70's...but the planes were landing at LGA and they were flying over the beach every 30 seconds apart so complete quiet, no it wasnt. ugh !! but it was a nice beach nevertheless
Multiple busses stop right in front of it on Hylan Blvd.
Yes but it's about a mile and a half walk from Hylan/Buffalo to the beach area of Gateway. A long walk if you're carrying beach chairs, coolers, etc.
Many years ago (80s I believe)the MTA ran a special route during the summer into Gateway, don't know why it was discontinued. Was an offshoot of the S103 which later became the s78/s79.
Brooklyn has invaded Riis. About 7 years ago, it was great.

I've been to Riis about a dozen times this summer, always weeks days. Never had issues with inconsiderate people or the beach being packed. Also no plane issues.
