I have never know the plain old spring loaded, neck snapping device, loaded with a piece of cheese to fail to get your mouse...usually at 2 AM.
Just toss the whole works, mouse and all.
my last apartment was in an old house, top floor and I had a few mice in there, but they never lasted too long with my cat. I never would have even known I had one if it wasn't for my cat sitting and staring under the stove for hours waiting for the mouse to come out. I only had an issue one particularly cold winter, I guess they were trying to escape the outside. I came home from work one day to a "present" (a dead one by the front door)..it was TINY and it didn't even look like my cat did much to it, it was just on it's side dead. Probably scared to death. After I disposed of it, my cat kept going back and looking for it, guess he was insulted I didn't keep his gift LOL.
I second getting a cat, but it's not for everyone...
