I second City Island. Check out the Starving Artists Café and Gallery. I think there's a B&B up there, too.

You can take the bus there. Bx 13 from Pelham Bay Park station.

You would take the Bx 29 from Pelham Bay Station. I spend a lot of time on CI and was not aware of a B&B (not saying it's not there though). It's very nice in the fall....the overwhelming crowds of the summer are gone and you can actually enjoy the island again. I personally recommend Portofino for dinner.

Portofino is great! I don't head to City Island as much as I should due to distance, but it's a great daytrip from the city while still in NYC. I waste too much money at Sammy's Fishbox though.

Lake George is not within a 2 hour drive. More like a 4 hour drive.

Within 2 hours I would do Pennsylvania, or upstate, around Bear Mountain. I think I saw on Airbnb a dome you can rent up north that looked pretty interesting.
