And, many black immigrants are leaving too. There are many relocating to southern cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and even more moving to Florida.
Many foreign-born Blacks have been leaving Florida too. Some Haitians I've met living in Atlanta have relocated from Florida. Among the reasons, a lower cost of living.
Houston,Texas has a large Nigerian population, among the largest in the USA.
Any city that has become a major tech/finance center has seen a decline in its Black population. This has happened in NYC. This has happened in San Francisco. In SF, there wasn't much of a foreign-born Black population there, so that city's Black population has dropped dramatically.
I don't have HBO, and I don't want to pay for the subscription. However, I suspect this is about gentrification in San Francisco, and how Blacks have been affected by it in disproportionate numbers.

The documentary interviews Black and Hispanic people (and many others) who have been affected by the arrival of tech companies to the area. SF has been expensive for a while because there's just no place to build but in recent years, companies have moved north from the Silicon Valley, and are outpricing everyone.

People should avoid NYC, DC SF and Boston outright all together due to high cost of living. If anyone wants to get ahead in these cities needs lots of capital, have a degree from an Ivy League or top college like Stanford or Georgetown or have an advanced degree.

Top engineering schools too: MIT, CalTech, UC Berkeley, etc.
And, many black immigrants are leaving too. They are relocating to many of the same places (southern cities like Atlanta and Charlotte, where American blacks have been moving for decades), NYC metro area suburbs, and Florida.
Some of the Black immigrants are moving back to the Caribbean.

This is true and you might add Los Angeles into that mix as well.
Foreign-born Blacks have been moving to NYC for a long time, even before the 80s. One of the most famous Black New Yorkers of foreign-born parents is: Colin Powell. American Blacks have been leaving for a few decades.

Add media to your comments. NYC and LA are media centers and they have decline in their Black populations. In order to get jobs in these fields one needs a high level of education. If you waved a magic wand and got rid of all discrimination today, there's still the fact that Black urban populations disproportionately had low levels of education.
