I'm 27 and have always been intrigued by news and current events in general. I find Investigative journalism, exposes and things of that nature to be very interesting. I have a B.S. in another field.
Not interested in being a writer .
I have a well paying job which is boring and not forever .As a result I am able to keep up w all the news and find it enjoyable. Both online blogs and print (NYT).
How would one trying to change careers or get a chance to ??
I find Radio (behind scenes ) to be cool. Also news shows and the broadcast. I always find myself rating the interviewers .
Schooling ? Broadcast program ?
Most internships require you to be enrolled in college. But I graduated 4 years ago from college. I can do a great job if given the opportunity.
I am willing to start at the bottom and learn my way through.
Most NYC broadcast journalists either start in small markets and work their way up to big ones like here, were successful print journalists that made the jump to TV or radio, or worked at some alternative media outlet or small cable outlet. In a market this big and competitive you will have to have something to show just to get a foothold even.
You could also try J-school at City College or Columbia which IIRC are two year graduate programs and both competitive.
Somehow find an internship, probably unpaid and find a way to hustle. Its An attractive industry so it's highly competitive
