wow-what a narcissist. why don't you just stay in FL....? we have enough people like you in nyc already.
That's alright. "Beemers" in Manhattan are like Buicks in the rest of the country. Everyone has one. 26 year old iBankers in Maseratis will be running the "Beemer" off the road (not too mention picking off all the "tail" that a BMW would get you in other parts of the country).
Wife and I sold the bimmer and kept the Mitsu lancer (in a garage) when we moved to the city. It was tough, but a good call, because your car will get dinged in NYC, whether its in a garage, street, etc.
My advise is to downsize your rent budget a bit and find buildings with on-site parking.
Your advice is nice, but not realistic. Most buildings with on-site parking have waiting lists if tenants are given lower prices. If they're not given a break on the price, then there's no real advantage.
$500 is not enough to pay NYC insurance especially if you don't put the vehicle in a garage. Garage parking for a BMW, or for any vehicle for that matter, is not cheap. Parking on the street is a headache, especially in Manhattan with the alternate side parking and the headache of NYPD ticketing.
I suggest moving to NJ where you can get a luxury apartment and parking and commute to Manhattan within 20 minutes. Consider, Hoboken and Jersey City etc. It's not Manhattan, but you are close and you can have your car and a decent apartment in a good neighborhood.
Good luck.
