I lived in Honolulu for a couple of years in the late 1990s and I remember this kind of thing (airport). The homeless problem there nowadays (overall) is even worse.

This is an extreme security risk. Why are people being allowed to LOITER in an AIRPORT?

Unless you are working there, or traveling or picking someone up you have no business in the airport to begin with.

These people need to be kicked out of the airport.

I'm sure the press coverage will now force the issue.

I too am surprised that this is the situation due to the security risk.

What I'd heard first-hand about homeless in NYC airports is this: my in-law's mother, a middle-class native of Queens, became mentally ill (schizophrenia and depression) and eventually homeless. She refused to stay in a homeless shelter because of real and imaginary threats to herself and belongings (in shopping bags).

Instead, she and other homeless people slept at JFK and wandered there or elsewhere by day, This ended when one of the mayors (Giuliani, I think, at same time he twinkled up Times Square) kicked the homeless out of airports then. I guess they're back now, at least at LGA.

And so you know our family tried in countless ways. Over the years she did everything imaginable to try to link her mom up with available help in this city for her. She tried to bring her mother home to live with her in her small town/nice house/attention/medical care/grandchildren/private room. But the mentally ill woman wouldn't stay after a few months, and just walked out past them saying "Bye." She returned to NYC and wandered homeless until she died.

It was heartache for my in-law, that's for sure. The airport story stuck in my head.

Let 'em stay in the old TWA terminal at JFK. Place hasn't been used for decades now anyway.

So are they walking through East Elmhurst to get there or the bus drivers are letting them get on the bus? Because I know they're not taking Ubers there....thats the million dollar question.

Final call for JFK's classic TWA terminal - CNN.com

JFK's TWA terminal is set t obecome a hotel. Homeless can't afford to stay there.

When is the next few years Resorts World Casino allows table gambling (right now they are only allowed electronic games including electronic table gambling), gamblers won't have to go far to go the casino from their hotel rooms (out of town gamblers, at least). Stay at a hotel near JFK or even in Jamaica.

Hey if you're gambling in the summer you could even take the A train to the beach.
