If Rosedale is considered an area in Jamaica, would you consider Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, Howard Beach and Ozone Park as areas in Jamaica?

Well, most of those places are "Jamaica, NY" according to the post office

The post office also considers Forest Hills to be part of "Flushing, NY".

Queens has four central post offices. LIC, Flushing, Jamaica, and Far Rockaway. All of the Rockaways are served by Far Rockaway. Eastern Queens is Jamaica. Central Queens is Flushing. Astoria is LIC.

The post office at one point tried to stop individual neighborhoods in Queens from using the neighborhood name like Corona, Rego Park, Jackson Heights and make them use the main post offices. But neighborhood residents fought for the right to keep the neighborhood name on the mail.

I feel like the Jamaica post offices tend to go by Jamaica NY, and LICs as Long Island City NY, more so than Flushing neighborhoods do. Maybe because the Flushing post office really encompasses two original townships, Flushing and Newtown. Back in '70s, Ridgewood and Glendale were part of the Brooklyn post office. Also now part of Flushing.

Yeah in common practice people generally use the specific neighborhood name, even businesses will list themselves as say "Richmond Hill, NY". Although some people go by "Queens, NY".

Nationwide, I'm pretty sure this is unique to Queens and Boston.

I think officially people the post office goes by the 4, however in common practice people use the neighborhood name.

That's what they've been saying for the past 10 years, but when guys like Joe Moretti still have a lot to write about the uselessness of city officials and organizations, then I really doubt it.

I sent Joe pictures of some illegal dumping on 147pl this morning. That block is a wreck and it's right next to the hub. They really need to enforce quality of life laws in Jamaica. If the NYPD starts ticketing people for littering the problem would be rectified real quick. They are just about done revitalizing Rufus King Park, and it's beautiful. Without park police enforcement though, the locals will trash Rufus King park in a matter of a week. 85% of the people living in Jamaica are the problem. They have no pride, dignity, or self respect. That's why the community looks like crap.
