Jamaica, Offers very good MTA and LIRR service. Especially, In that part of Queens. The further East you go in Queens, There is zero subway service and LIRR service. From Jamaica ( Main hub btw) to Penn, 20 minutes. Besides these two things, what else? Downtrodden looking homes. It's not a very aesthetic area. No old Art Deco or Tudor homes. If someone wants a suburban style living then why not travel 20 minutes East of Jamaica. In my humble opinion it was never an area built for opulence. It's a poor/working class area. I always wonder where the writers are from. For instance St John's is North on Union Turnpike. HUGE difference between Union Turnpike and where the train is.

yeah I'm surprised by that, as you can get from central Nassau County to 34th st by LIRR in the same amount of time or less than it would take by the F train from Jamaica

Be honest about it. Look at those white collar families who moved to Jackson Hts whose kids play in Traverse Park, attend PS 69 or Garden School, and parents commute to Manhattan. They're not actually affluent by NYC standards. Do you really think more of them will move to Jamaica?
Wow PS 69 seems like a pretty diverse school

There are LIRR stations in Hollis, Queens Village, St Albans, Rochdale, Laurelton, and Rosedale.

Reason not to move 20 minutes further east would be to not have to pay the high taxes on Long Island.

hate to break it to all nyc folk, but the hottest neighborhood according to real estate stats is NEW ****ING JERSEY. more bang for the buck. the only ones buying into NYC now at uber inflated prices are foreign investors, the chinese and russians. who's paying up $600k for a 1400 sq ft 2.5 bedroom in hollis built in 1955, with shoddy brick and aluminum siding....

New Jersey is a state, not a neighborhood. And you won't find many Chinese or Russians in Hollis either.

the chinese and russians don't live there, they buy up the RE, and rent it out or hold for a flip.
