Just heard on the news of another slashing today. What are these people getting out of slashing a total stranger other than possibly jail time?

I don't get it.

It's always something that happens BUT only recently has it been getting more coverage. Reminds me of a few yrs ago how people getting killed by trains was making headlines yet always was happening.

I think the latest slashing is gang related. According to reports, the bloods street gang is expanding throughout NYC. Apparently, new members slash innocent people, as part of an initiation.

During the late 90s there were a lot of slashings:
26 Are Arrested in Gang Slashings of Subway Commuters - NYTimes.com

The best thing that one can do is try to remain alert. When riding the subway (or while waiting for a train) do not text/talk on the phone or look as though you are pre-occupied. Also, try to avoid standing too close to those wearing a lot of red (especially if they are male). I know some may scoff at this, but the truth is, there are more and more troubled youth joining gangs, so expect an increase in the number of slashings...

As an aside: The man who slashed the 71 year old victim was wearing a red hoodie and pants.

That does kinda make sense. If gangs are growing, then that's going to be a big problem. Look at Chicago and how hard it is to shake off the gang culture once it's established.

Thanks De Blozo for undoing in just two short years all of the progress the previous administrations made since those bad old days of the late '80's and early '90's.

The poor are mentally disturbed cannot get a gun in NYC . Luckily so. They're next line of defense is a knife.
