Notice how de Blasio is taking off of Bloomberg's unfinished real estate proposing and making them into a reality. Bloomberg rezoned the West Side of Manhattan, LIC, Astoria, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Jamaica, etc for development. Now de Blasio has apparently sped along with the permitting process.

And now de Blasio is aggressively planning to LEASE out VALUABLE NYCHA land to developers. He has already sold takes in some NYCHA units to development.

This is privatization. De Blasio is privatizing NYCHA.

Here they are even saying they may SELL empty NYCHA plots.

NYCHA needs some kind of way to generate revenue. It isn't coming from the federal government.

Nearby Yonkers, the second largest public housing authority in the US behind NYCHA, is selling its entire portfolio to generate revenue. Private developers will buy and renovate the buildings, and the residents will transition to section 8 subsidies.

This is much more extreme than what NYCHA is doing. I feel that NYCHA is being innovative and not getting enough credit for that. Residents are panicking, and I get it, but this is necessary to ensure the survival of these buildings. If residents do not like this, then they should propose another solution. NYCHA is trying here. They aren't selling their properties like so many public housing authorities have done.

Have said this before, and am here again to do so; de Boob is an idiot and political naïf who each day cannot believe how he managed to get into the mayor's office.

Almost from the start with de Boob's failed attempts to save LIC (with help like that who needs enemies?), and since the man obviously has been sat down and now realizes what all politics breaks down to; the art of the possible.

Having made "affordable" or rather low income housing the primary focus of his mayoralty de Boob has obviously realized one key fact; New York City cannot afford to remotely build a tenth of the housing promised on its own. So regardless of how it looks or and or personal feelings BdeB has to go where all NYC mayors have for decades; knocking on Big Daddy's door (the real estate lobby/developers) and say "help me".

Now y'all know Big Daddy. He ain't an unreasonable man, just likes to get something for his efforts..... *LOL* You want me to build affordable housing? What cha got for Big Daddy? It is the way of the world; those that wants something have to give up something.

They will redevelop projects in nice areas of Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and send everyone they displace to the Bronx. You'll see. Its what the City always does.

Okay Mr Smarty Pants, how do you propose coming up with the billions to fix up the NYCHA buildings then?

Let's hear it.

Anyone with money who moves into one of these places (or anywhere near a project) is a fool.

That is the whole MO!

City gets developers to build "luxury" housing next to places the wealthy or anyone with sense won't move into. Empty units are then sold or given to the City as "affordable" or "low income" housing so developer or landlord can get something for apartments sitting empty.

It has happened before.....

Living near the projects in a white neighborhood is not so bad. The most reasonably priced housing in an irrational real estate market will be near the projects. I have lived near the projects for over 4 years and I have not had any issues. Many transplants have very irrational fears of being around poor people.

In a place as hyper competitive for resources as NYC it is important to be a little contrarian otherwise you will always be paying transplant prices and be complaining how you never have enough money to survive in this city.

I'm no transplant, yet have no interest in living near life losers. It is not a desirable trait to acceot failure as normal, not matter what anyone says or how loud they say it!
