What?
Our building has had no end of problems with seniors and transplants buzzing persons they do not know in, and yes thefts have occurred.
*Real* native New Yorkers have an innate and developed sense of distrust. It is that little voice in you head that tells you someone in your immediate area should be avoided. It is that same little voice that tells you *not* to open your door because someone on the other side (who you don't know) wants to speak with you.........
Problems with access to buildings is getting worse now that UPS, USPS, FedEx, Amazon and others seem to have this policy of gaining access to a building at all costs to leave packages regardless if recipient is home to accept.
You walk around Manhattan and glance at non-doorman buildings and often you see one or several packages just left in lobby or even outer vestibule. This is an open invitation for theft. Peeps simply keep pressing buzzer buttons until someone opens the door. In certain circles a "list" is made of people who will buzz in anyone to the building. Again this is usually clueless (or lonely) middle aged persons or seniors that are home all day.
