Very compelling excuse...and wait until you become the next slashing statistics and please do not let the media cover your sad story...

The fact that most of the perps got away from slashing others will encourage more perps into the endangering criminal acts. NYPD is failing to protect the public from such violent crimes, and I wonder if I should stop paying state tax for the lousy service.

Right - when you get slashed I hope you just wipe the blood off of your face and say "Welp statistically this was bound to happen" and go along with your day.

I never understand people who look at crime and try to justify it with statistics, but if a cop is caught doing something wrong, they never use those same statistics to say "Well when you have a police force of 30,000 cops, there are bound to be bad apples"... nope it becomes "ALL COPS ARE RACIST KILLERS!". Anything to fit an agenda.

I do notice a few outspeaking perp right activitists here who identify themselves with low lives/savages/subhumans more than with the right values and argue in their favor when crimes occur because they happen to share the same skin color with the perps. Therefore they take any anti-perp comments as personal insults.

Tons of that here. They are so racially-obsessed that they think anyone who is against criminals only associates crime with "blacks and browns" (as they like to say).

ALL criminals are SAVAGES!!! White, black, brown, yellow, red, man, woman, or whatever libby-approved sex they identify as. I don't care what the perp looks like, I expect them to act within the bounds of civil society or else face the full wrath of the LAW.

Take that GQA you racialist apologist.

Lol you guys need to calm down a bit. Nobody here is arguing with you. I'm not saying that the slashings aren't concerning. What I'm saying is that not every slashing, mugging, theft, shooting that you see is part of some greater issue. What you're seeing right now unfortunately is that slashings seem to be the thing to do right now. Take a look at the statistics. Last year we had a much higher percentage of shootings at this point. The city still had one of the lowest homicide years on record. I agree with you, these things need to be taken care of but just put it in its proper perspective. In comparison with 5-10 years ago, this city cannot even be compared. We are so much safer than we were. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know a thing about this city. Majority of the crime that you see happen now especially theft or burglaries stem from the fact that this city is so safe people take liberties they would have never even imagined taking in the old NYC. Leaving doors or windows unlocked or even open... Buzzing anyone that rings their doorbell in. Walking around head down with their phones/ipads out not being aware of there surroundings... Me living in Ridgewood, late 90s early 2000s I'd walk around with an adjustable nightstick because people would jump you for no reason in my neighborhood all the time. This was Ridgewood Queens. So all I'm saying is let's just calm down a little bit and understand that this is an unfortunate trend but this isn't part of some greater pattern or increase in crime. We're fine. What is happening right now is terrible but we have the greatest police force in the world. They'll figure this one out and you'll see things return back to normal.

I'm expecting some company to start marketing anti-slashing/protective face masks in the five boros very soon.
