I'm no specialist. But it looks like something is already in the works. Would you support something like this? I wonder if the guy today is trying to get it while he can.
Why the heck are you even looking at what other people buy and how they pay? I think that's weird. Sometimes you can't help seeing what's on the conveyor ahead of you, but I've never strained to watch what method of payment another person uses. I don't care. The fact that you do gives off a high creepster alarm.
I have never had to use public assistance, fortunately, but I think I'm going to try to be a little more aware as to whether some freak is behind me at the grocery store watching how I pay.

I was just at Fairway and the guy in front of me had a nice filet mignon, two lobsters and what looked like caviar in his basket. They rang him up and the total came to $66. He opens his wallet and out comes his SNAP food stamps card!
Now I always cringe when I witness poor people buying pure junk food with food stamps, but a filet and lobsters? WTF?
I hear there is a bill in the works that would prevent the above. Would that be a good thing? What crazy things have you witnessed someone purchase with food stamps?
What would be a good thing is for you to mind your own business. You aren't the grocery police.
More importantly, how do you know that this guy paid with an EBT card and not a debit or credit card? Was he wearing a big yellow "S" on his coat to indicate he was a SNAP recipient?
I always pay my groceries with my debit card. I have no idea whether my debit card could be mistaken for an EBT card by some nosy person in the check out line looking for an excuse to diss poor people: "Oh, look! She bought sushi and fresh bruchetta with her SNAP food stamps card!!!"
just nonsense watching what people buy . if they buy expensive allowed items they have just that much less to go around for the month . it is their problem .
I knew the OP was full of it. He didn't "witness" anyone buying filet mignon and lobster. He saw a story and wanted to act like he was the first to think of it. Lame.

Two lobsters, a filet mignon and caviar for $66? What a deal!
I hope you patted him on the back and congratulated him for his canny shopping acumen.

The cards are pretty obvious. Not many credit cards are white with your photo on it. I'm in line right behind the guy waiting for him to "pay".
You have insufficient information to analyze. You're using this to confirm what you already know. In short you hate people on SNAP, so you'll gladly look for more reasons to hate him.
If they buy junk food, you hate them, if they buy expensive food you hate them.
When did I ever say I "hate people on SNAP". You have insufficient information. You're using this to confirm what you already know.

What amazes me is that he could get all that at Fairway for only $66.
