And honestly, I feel like the problem is being worsened by all the media hype, it's causing people to be copycats and commit slashings of their own

I totally agree
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloa...en-us-city.pdf

30.8% reduction in murders compared to last year per the most recent compstat, and this winter has been way milder than last year's. I know it's too early to speak for the whole year, but at the current rate, there will easily be less than 300 murders for the year citywide. That would be a big victory for de Blasio and the NYPD as far as crime goes.
Crime doesn't begin or end with murders. If robbery, assault or burglary increase that's more likely to affect the average person. Even in the early 1990s you're chance of being murdered we're very remote.

Default media hype

Slashings have been happening in this city since this city was built. This is just over hype in the media once again. They are just reporting every slashing that is going on so they have a news story.

True, but I have to imagine that less murders=less other crime.

been saying that on every post in this thread but the sheep just dont realize it. Also more shootings have been since jan than slashing but its not "popular/cool" at the moment to report about it.

That's normal though, Jan/Feb usually have less shootings than warmer months

I think the slashings scare people more than shootings. People assume that shootings only happen in bad area and if they aren't there, they won't be shot. (which is not true).
However with the slashings they are happening all over the city, at busy subways, in good areas, during daylight hours ect so people could see themselves in the victims place.

That and that one cell phone video of that guy's cheek slashed open coming off the subway. You could see the blood and meat in the gash as he's walking around trying to hold his skin together on his face in shock. Ack!

Then that model like slasher woman on the subway who attacked that couple on video and said she was going to get away with it. It's like watching a bad homemade reality horror flick in little segments.
