For a photography project, I'm looking for a forest, preferably somewhere I can get via train. Something like this http://feelgrafix.com/data_images/ou...ine-forest.jpg

Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Last stop on the 1 or 4 (the 1 will leave you closer).

Northwestern part of Inwood Hill Park is wonderfully woodsy.
<A train to Dyckman St.>
Be prepared for some hill-climbing.

Forest Park in Queens. It lives up to it's name.

Alley Pond Park has a lot of wooded trails, paved and unpaved, that give a real sense of a forest. It's not near any trains though.

Yep, take the J train to Forest Park. The point when developing Forest Park was to give it a more natural forest appearance vs other more landscaped parks life Central Park, Prospect Park, Flushing Meadow, Fort Greene Park, etc...

That's Alley Pond Park, which was already mentioned. Nice area to ride a bike too. That hill down Douglaston Pkwy. is wicked.

New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. A genuine, preserved woodland. Look no further.

  • Bronx Botanical Gardens
  • Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx (Largest park in NYC). Pelham Bay Park also has Orchard Beach so you get the best of both worlds.

Both of these fit the bill
