60,000 Homeless here according to the article. The man in this article was driven to this life sadly by drugs, Which does affect many in the population both homeless and even housed people. Great article detailing this mans day to day life and the difficulties faced. Hope he can somehow still find a way out.
Very well written article that adds some flesh and blood, with a bit of dignity, to the homeless problem. I was in homeless, street, prison and halfway house ministry for over 30-years and have seen a lot of "Marvin's" over the years.
They and everyone else knows they are there because of their own repeated poor decisions and unwillingness to change. There often isn't very much one can do to help such individuals, particularly when they eliminate their eligibility for most missions and housing assistance through continued drug use. Still, one can maintain a sense of compassion and deal with these people as the dysfunctional human beings they are.
I want to have sympathy for this guy, but I can't really muster it. His problems are really self inflicted.
