That means that the neighborhood has at least ONE brownstone.
I agree! I thought Lord of the rings or Dungeons and Dragons...."One does not simply walk into WiviKen" LOL. All these silly made up names, When will it end seems like a new one each month.
I wonder if those names were "accepted" when theybwere created
Even though I don't really accept NoLita to br a real neighborhood, at least it sounds nice, WiViKen sounds awful
"Dumbo" "TriBeCa" "Soho" are pretty ridiculous names themselves. We're just use to them and have accepted them as legitimate neighborhood names.
I remember a while ago (this must have been some time in the late 90s) I was driving with my dad over the BK bridge and he read out a sign on one of the buildings that said "Come live in Dumbo" but he pronounced it like "dume-bow". I corrected him and said "I think that's pronounced 'dumb-bow'" and we both laughed because either pronunciation sounded ridiculous.
How did Chelsea get it's appellation? Any similarity to the London neighborhood?
Was there a famous landmark like the Chelsea Hotel?
BTW, Soho is also a famous London neighborhood long known for theater, entertainment, nightlife, unlike the NY Soho that started as a warehouse district, and gradually became an artists' refuge, and now Eurotrash boutiques.

I totally agree, TriBeCa is actually super ridiculous when you think about it. Just imagine if someone came up with that name today.
I'm still trying to get over the South Bronx being called, "The Piano District"
You must be sh%#ing me!
