Toughest job in this city, day in and day out is sanitation by far. More injuries and deaths then PD and FD. 9/11 changed those numbers but other then that horrific day, we are most in peril on a daily basis. The city gets its money's worth out of us, that I can assure you.
Still, I will defend my PD and FD brothers. As someone stated, they are the insurance policy that you never want to use but when sh*t hits the fan they are there. They are worth every penny.
I have to agree here. The danger within Sanitation comes mainly from accidents, but it is ever present and certainly happens more often than PD/FD.

[quote=availableusername;43502410]Follow the twitter link I posted earlier, and you will see that there are fires everyday. Like I said, it comes in waves as per your area. Sometimes there are no structural fires for a few weeks. Sometimes there 5 in a week. I could not care less about what official city stats look like to you. You're just some uptight office drone who admittedly doesn't even f*ck his fiancé correctly. What could you possibly know about getting your hands dirty, in any capacity of life?

[quote=availableusername;43502580]No, you idiot. There are plenty of situations that are not fire-related nor medical. Someone pinned in their car and needing to be cut out is not considered medical for the company that does the cutting, just as one example. There are an incredible amount of vehicles in this city, and this happens a lot. Like I said, you don't know what you're talking about and come off like quite the bitter cvnt. You don't even understand the basic dynamics of the different types of companies within the dept (any dept).

[quote=availableusername;43502748]I was directly addressing your question about what are non-medical emergencies. Are you actually that dense? Lol you got a masters you said? I guess they push anybody through these days.

I can hear those crickets all the way into North Carolina.
I don't see how that has any bearing on the discussion at hand. It's only a means to shift the argument from fact based to personal. This is the internet, anyone can claim anything, what difference does it make.
If I told you I was homeless bum addicted to crack, what then? Maybe I'm Mike Bloomberg when he's bored? lol
I bring facts from the FDNY themselves no less. Argue the case at hand.
It matters because I like to know what kind of guy I'm dealing with. It speaks volumes about you that you can't simply tell me how you spend your days in this life. Coming off as very unhappy and bitter to me.
Me? I'm quite satisfied. You have no idea what it's like to be a cop, ff, san man, etc. Yet by your know-it-all attitude, one would think that you've held all of these jobs for decades a piece. I personally wouldn't claim to know what it's like to be an accountant or whatever the hell it is you do. But ya know, I'm honest with myself...
In any case, I take no issue with the salaries that firefighters make. It's good to know there are enough of them around so that in case there is a fire, the response time is low. Also, I work in the construction industry, so it's also good to know they're nearby to rescue me should an accident occur.

Your argument doesn't make much sense.
If the leader of ISIS told you that 1 + 1 =2 or that geometric returns are always less than arithmetic returns, would that change your perception of math?
btw, accounting is boring as ****. I'd rather go on a suicide mission to fight ISIS. I think it's fairly obvious that I have a curious interest in stats.

Taxpayers are unlikely to support budget increases for fire departments if they see firemen lolling about the firehouse. So cities have created new, highly visible jobs for their firemen. The Wall Street Journal reported recently, “In Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami, for example, 90% of the emergency calls to firehouses are to accompany ambulances to the scene of auto accidents and other medical emergencies. Elsewhere, to keep their employees busy, fire departments have expanded into neighborhood beautification, gang intervention, substitute-teaching and other downtime pursuits.” In the Illinois township where I live, the fire department drives its trucks to accompany all medical emergency vehicles, then directs traffic around the ambulance—a task which, however valuable, seemingly does not require a hook-and-ladder.

I will take fact based arguments from someone who is in the field as apposed to someone who merely interprets them from a desk. Also your statement that firefighters are just glorified EMTS Tells me all I need to know about what you know about the job.

Reports directly from the FDNY, National Fire Association, NYC gov, are not from those directly from the field? Are they just made up? I think you should blow the whistle.
Availableuser isn't making any fact based arguments. His arguments are all anectodal and I would say that he has a conflict of interest at the very least. How many employees do you know who would admit that they're redundant or unnecessary? lol
I don't care either way. In fact, it's in my interest to be safe.
I see long term stats not only from the US but from other countries and they're all pointing in the same direction. Numbers don't lie or misdirect. Humans do.
If you want to argue that the I'm interpreting the stats in the wrong manner then go ahead. Make your case.

I second that.
