I'm glad this gentrification topic is making it's way into the mainstream media. This short 3 minute highlight is the most accurate example of what's going on and who's causing it. They admit it's pros and cons where as in real life too many people focus on the negative aspects. Gentrification isn't a race issue, it's an education/income gap.
Considering that white neighborhoods in NYC get gentrified first and at a faster rate than black neighborhoods, I'd say race isn't a factor. Except that gentrifiers rather move to white neighborhoods over black neighborhoods.
I agree. Plenty of black gentry in the city. They are the same race as gentry whites. Gentrification is not about race, but about money. Race card in gentrification is used to act or us as a vehicle to for divide and conquer. I'm in DC now and lots of gentry black people here.
Rents have been increasing in NYC even in neighborhoods that aren't trendy and have little to no whites. Compare the average rents in Wakefield now to 5 years ago.
transplantfication- A resident price out of Crown Heights but move to the South Bronx.
