Hi, guys. I am from Albuquerque, just moved to NYC. Please advice the best places for a coffee in Lower East Side. Share your favorite nooks and pockets.
Thanks for info and I will be glad to make friends.
I usually do Konditori or Round K since they're near me if I feel like spending money. Another favorite is Koneko because I like the atmosphere and it's a friggin' cat cafe! The Cocoa Bar has some good coffee, but I go there because they put sake in it too.
Generally though I just get coffee at the deli on Forsyth and Broome or at the deli on Grand and Forsyth because it's $1 no tax. There's also a place on Madison St down south that does $0.50 coffee. I've gotten used to making it for free at work, however. If you're going to become addicted to something, might as well make it cheap!
One of those cheap bodegas in Washington Heights ask for a Cafe con leche. It'll be about .50 Cents and worth every penny. No need to pay for a $4.00 overrated cup of shiv. I always chase the cheapest.
Just go to Dunkin Donuts like true blue born n raised NY'ers do. Don't you want to be authentic? It's such a transient, hipster thing to ask about coffee. Sigh.

Seriously, just go outside your door and explore, that is the beauty of living in Manhattan/NYC. Go west one day, east the next, north, south..... Look on websites like EV Grieve to catch the buzz....
East Village, Lower East Side, Soho, Tribeca, West Village, Greenwich Village are all rich with so much to do... Take along your device of choice and hit a spot. Order some brew and settle in for awhile. If the coffee is acceptable and vibe cool hang for a bit. If not keep on keeping on until you find something up your street. Ask friends, neighbors, co-workers in your age group where they hang.

There is such a thing as "coffee culture" and there is quite a difference in coffee itself. Coffee culture isn't only a "hipster" thing and many other cultures have it. The idea being a relaxed atmosphere (which likely isn't going to be a fast food chain like DnD) where one dinks coffee and socializes. You wouldn't scold someone for asking about a good bar? Youl'll find coffee shop culture all throughout Europe, parts of the Middle East, South America, parts of Africa, as well as areas all over the US. There is nothing "hipster" about it. It may be precieved that way because a lot of transplants had a college experience with a type of campus coffee shop culture and everyone in NYC seems to love to hate "hipster transplants".
As for an actual "good cup of coffee", Dunkin Donuts is good or really bad coffee depending on whom you ask. I'm not a fan of it but I also think Starbucks is overrated. Also, you do know Dunkin Donuts is a Massachusetts based company so why are you saying it's something "born n raised NYers do"? It has a global footprint now but it use to be primarily in and around New England and probably started to expand to NYC in (maybe???) the 70s.
