A friend who attended SUNY Oswego (upstate, nowhere near the City) carried her tablet around with her all 4 years she was there....I don't know if the school distributed them or if she obtained it elsewhere.
I take liquid iodine everyday (not for this purpose but as I do not get enough in my diet). A bottle will cost like $10-15. will last you a year if you use it everyday.
Is that Lugol's solution? Can I buy it without an Rx?

Yes you can buy it online.
The brand I'm using right now I got at Whole Foods (Natural Factors Liquid Kelp Iodine 800 mcg ‑ 1.6 fl oz) cause I didn't want to bother with buying online and waiting for it.
Actually it will last you several years as there are 1515 serving per bottle. I take several servings a day though so for me its about 1 bottle a year. Each serving has 800mcg of iodine.
I ordered 4 x 14 packs of the 130 mg. KI for about $15 + $5.50 shipping yesterday from Life Extension. That was the cheapest I found.
Livingsingle, you do realize that 800mcg. is not even a single milligram, right? You would need many dozens of bottles to protect against a dose of radiation.
Each of the emergency pills is 130,000 mcg of KI or about 100,000 mcg. elemental Iodine.

Yes I know like I said I take it for low iodine in my diet.
I think you need a great deal more than you are taking. The average Japanese diet, rich in seaweed has a great deal more than you are taking.
Quote:
The amount of iodine the Japanese consume daily from seaweeds has previously been estimated as high as 13.5 to 45 mg/day by sources that use ambiguous data to approximate intake
Japan is the only country with essentially ZERO incidence of goiter. It's a good thing that most Japanese had their thyroids essentially saturated with iodine at the time of the Fukushima disaster. I will chop up one of those 130 mg. pills when I get them and try to take as close to 10 mg. every day for a few days. Who knows, maybe it will give me a little more pep?
