A young female Canadian tourist from Ottawa, was punched in the face by a young man in Times Square, after she took a photo with the man who offers "free hugs " to tourists. She refused to pay him, and he hit her in the face, causing her to have a large cut above her eye brow , and a black eye. The man ran away, but was arrested later. NYPD said that he was also involved in two previous incidents where he punched others, who refused to pay him.
This "dude" is autistic (interesting he's willing to give hugs to begin with) and has had several confrontations about these "free hugs". Reminds me of the characters on Times Square that fought people for not tipping either after pictures. I'm just a bit confused about the "free" part? What's "free" then - the assault? I get paranoid on public transportation when someone gets too close - so a complete stranger hugging me

He had to change his business model after the "free groping" enterprise failed
I would be highly repulsed if someone offered to hug me in Times Square. The attacker shouldn't have attacked the victim (obviously) but I simply can't understand why anyone would want a hug from a street hustler in the first place.
Similar to the cartoon characters down there wanting you to take pictures with them.
Legally you don't have to give them any money after you take the photo, but they are super aggressive and will follow you for a while, with hand out looking for that "tip"
Also not to mention the second you take with one they all swarm like flies trying to force you to take with them as well.
