When you consider after taxes even $60k is *NOT* a great salary for NYC you see where this is going. Well suppose if one is single it *might* work, but if you've got kids...
Just sat for this exam, did reasonably well (88). I'm wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get called up?
Also, what's your experience been working for ACS?
I was a CPS for 7 years immediately after I got my msw. Eventually I came to the realization that I would be more effective as a teacher so I switched careers and became a teacher. It was definitely the right decision for me.CPS work might be the only job more thankless than teaching and it is not nearly as rewarding.
If you are a CPS for a few years and begin to feel disillusioned consider the switch. Your CPS background will probably help make you a highly effective NYC teacher.
I was a CPS worker for 5 years. Don't mean to be negative but this job is very dangerous and very stressful. The CPS worker is overlooked and use as a scapegoat for EVERYTHING! No respect among the workers, management or the courts. Bottom line this line of work is not built for everyone.
That's what I figured. It is also an agency under a lot of scrutiny and one that is very vulnerable to shakeups. Not a place I would to work in.
