Overall, I'd say Forest Hills is nicer than most NYC suburbs.
The funniest part about you, is that you're so blatantly one of those douchey nyc real estate fanboys. I truly cannot think of much more in this life that screams insecurity. The fact that I could live in this magical land you so desire if I wanted to, but kind of hate it over there seems to sincerely chap your ass in great magnitude for some strange reason. And all this does is make me smirk.

It isn't uncommon to see drivers go 40-50 mph down that stretch of Union Tpk. There's no speed cameras there because there's no schools nearby.

Same goes with Metropolitan between Cooper and 80 St.

Knowing that the OP is interested in moving to Forest Hills, what NYC suburb would you recommend? To rephrase, if you could afford to live in Forest Hills, what NYC suburb would you choose to reside instead? Keep in mind that the OP is coming from Manhattan, not East Elmhurst.

A useless note that doesn't reflect the OP's questions, but Nick's Pizza is the best pizza I have tasted among the NYC boroughs. That was my first time out to Forest Hills; and what I enjoyed about it was there was a bit of that city/village feel, and then you went under the bridge and it was the beautiful suburban area. Both the LIRR and Subway stops right in the heart of town. If you can make it work, I highly suggest living there.

It's a good pizza back then in 2005 but today there are a lot brick oven pizza places.

It's not easy, but I find Rego Park a tad easier to find parking around the streets with houses. I live south of Queens Blvd. It really can't get worst than FH in terms of finding parking in Queens.

If the OP can afford Manhattan rent, he or she can probably afford FH rent. FH rent is not exorbitant, buying a house is.... especially FH Gardens.

So your saying that if they had an apartment in Manhattan then they'll likely get a house in Forest Hills?
