Not sure how to phrase this but need (credible) legal information.
I run a social media campaign that has around 10,000 followers but in groups where there are millions around the world. It is awareness for some illness.

This is non profit, we never ask for any money anyway. It's purely to help people with awareness and prevention.

I'm very sick myself so I can't really ask for any trouble and want to do all things without issue.
I have a plan to hand out info...in NYC on the street (as many do) but I will be asking people to pledge a promise on a piece of paper that will go into a large glass jar.

This jar will stand as hope to others who have chronic illness and also hope some of the people who do promise will follow through. It's just asking them to write a letter or post on a Facebook page.

What my question is: Do I need a permit? Can I just pick a spot and sit there and do this? This will also be video taped and posted on social media.

I see people in the city all the time asking for many things or handing out things. So can I just take my chances and do it? I really can't afford to pay fees, fill out paperwork etc...but determined to make a difference.

Also, what streets would be best to do this? I was thinking of starting in Times Square somewhere.

Thanks for any positive input and if giving legal advice, please be an attorney who knows facts. I'd greatly appreciate that.

I don't know the answer about legalities, but if the city permits begging, surely there shouldn't be a problem with handing out material.

However, I'd say that your plan of extracting a pledge sounds like a self-defeating idea. More than any of this, I'd think the single best route would be to get some articles published about the disease.

I dont think people are allowed to beg for money but they do because they have to and too many to stop them. Thanks for the input but I didnt explain every detail because didnt see the need to. We are also handing out info.with the pledge and card that has our social media links and cause. It's a kindness campaign, plus awareness.

This isn't an unknown disease, its tick bourne illness info...so info..I'm handing out explains how to prevent and a little about the disease(s) and how to learn more to protect people from advance stages.

To the best of my knowledge, people are allowed to beg, because it's considered free speech.
