A friend and I are relocating from Sydney Australia to New York and I'm hoping for a bit of advice. Has anyone else here done such a long distance relocation?
I live in a good studio in the centre of Sydney's City at $235 per week ($940 p/month). I can't find anything in Manhattan for that price, am I looking in the wrong places or is the general cost of living rediculous?
What areas of Harlem and Brooklyn livable/safe? and how long is the commute?
Also, I work in the music industry over here and I need to find a sponsoring company in the same industry. Does anyone know Companies who are keen to sponsor Aussies in the entertainment industry? Is there a website which lists companies that are keen to sponsor internationals?
It's very, VERY expensive to live here. That's the long and short of it.
And if you're looking to work in the entertainment industry you're joining a LONG line of aspiring workers, all with experience, willing to do ANYTHING to get an entree into the business here. No company is going to hire you, sight unseen, and pay for you to relocate from Australia.
Your best bet is to work IN AUSTRALIA for a company with a NY office. After some time there, you can ask about a secondement.
