oh let's just get it over with already. in 2020 all NYC streets will be filled with nothing but frollicking out of towners screaming in a joyous orgy about how cars have finally been eliminated from NYC. NYC, proper, is now declared the #1 Safe Space for the spawn with money to burn on stupid crap like 10 dollar coffees and 2500 dollar a month studio rents way out the hell in Queens.
If you cross the street without looking you're taking a gamble regardless you have the right or not. I was once walking on the green light and this car I watched coming closer did not slow down and proceed to run the red light outright. Had I not look or stopped I would be dead.
Cars are more dangerous than guns.
Plus the walk signal could have short circuited, so even if it says you have the "right of the way" to walk, the street may have the green light. That's why even when I have the walk signal I always look before I cross.
