oh let's just get it over with already. in 2020 all NYC streets will be filled with nothing but frollicking out of towners screaming in a joyous orgy about how cars have finally been eliminated from NYC. Shorter crossing distances and better visibility would eliminate many of these collisions. Neckdowns and curb extensions are the way to go.

This type of design should be implemented citywide. Pretty commonplace throughout cities in Spain for example.

Cars are more dangerous than guns.

Plus the walk signal could have short circuited, so even if it says you have the "right of the way" to walk, the street may have the green light. That's why even when I have the walk signal I always look before I cross.
