None of this should come as a surprise to the City. In their end days the main users of pay telephones were drug dealers in indoor prostitutes.

Yes, on the UES have noticed more than a few homeless men camped out at these kiosks. Interesting to see some dirty, bearded and long haired "homeless" person with a tablet plugged into Wifi. It does prove what one has said all along; many of these so called homeless aren't as destitute as some imagine.

Only other group see using these kiosks on the UES are the various Latino/Hispanic workers as they get off work and head towards the subway, buses or walking northward towards Harlem.

And how many millions of taxpayer money did the city waste on this bright idea?

I haven't seen anybody, "homeless" or otherwise, camping out at the kiosks, and I've been very interested in this addition to infrastructure. I use them all the time (to surf so I don't draw on my data plan, not to charge my battery) and I am a WASP.

I don't know if it reached the level of camping out, but I saw some guy who had gotten pretty comfortable hooked up to one.

Well I have, right on the corner of East 80th and Third Avenue, right outside that CityRow. Seems the guy was told to sling his hook as it was only for a few days.
