Can anyone tell me how long the commute is from Port Liberte to Midtown Manhattan? I am considering relocating, but I have a young child who will most likely be going to school in the city (since I am looking at particular private schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn). I would like a home-like setting (3-4 bedrooms). I originally considered Port Liberte, NJ since it is a gated community but in looking at the prices it seems like I can find equally decent places in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. (My budget is $4000-$6000).

Also I want a neighborhood where I will be accepted since I am a not-quite 30, black single mom with a live-in au pair from Europe. I just dont want to be some place where I or my child will be hassled.

Any opinions on these neighborhoods or any others that may suit me given what I have explained.

for that money you should stick to manhattan, pt liberte is very isolated and while it appears to be nice anywhere you'll go that is close by is very run down.

Its a nice area but isolated- given what you like it could be a good thing. In the summer the complex has two pools and tennis courts that you can enjoy, so the kids love it.

There is a ferry at the complex, so it would take you 50 minutes door to door. In adition they have a shuttle bus to the path.
