John Catsimatidis

Catsimatidis said he is expecting “a 6% annualized rate of inflation” by October

What do you think of Gristedes prices?

they seem a bit bandit-ish if you've been in there lately
been in the produce section lately?

yes, I don't think they are in any other boroughs except one store on Clark St in Downtown Brooklyn

also interesting, about the similar D'Agostino's chain, NY and Westchester:

" By 2016 under financial pressure, D'Agostino's consolidated to nine stores (now ten), all in Manhattan, and sold a controlling interest to John Catsimatidis, owner of Gristedes"

I believe his fortunes comes from Red Apple Group, a real estate and aviation company with about $2 billion in holdings

Their prices are flat out outrageous. There is a location near where I've been staying since Covid in Hells Kitchen and I find that their groceries are overpriced. $7.59 for Egglands Best Dozen Eggs. $7.99 for Honey Nut Cherrios. $6.99 for Tropicana Orange Juice. You can find Honey Nut Cherrios at Whole Foods for $2.99.

I have noticed, weirdly enough, when I look at the prices on the InstaCart app, they seem to be cheaper. Either way, I don't shop there.

There used to be a Western Beef, which had more reasonable prices on West End Avenue but they closed down during the pandemic. Now I travel to the Bronx for the supermarket and Whole Foods for specialty items.

What Manhattan and Brooklyn need are large, clean, bright, well-stocked supermarkets like Stop-N-Shop and ShopRite.
