If you cannot get legal help with the union ASAP, for whatever reason, then you should look up some attorneys who specialize in law for teachers. First, I think you should contact the UFT as much as possible and try to get free help. If not, then I'd search online for NYC lawyers for teachers or education lawyers. Call them and ask them if they can do what you need them to do. If you have to pay a little money, so be it.
Google some key terms like "teacher sue DOE" and then start reading articles. I would limit the search to the last 5 years so you don't get old cases. Find some that sound difficult, but were won by competent attorneys. Even if the article does not list the attorney's name, if you know the names of the others involved in the case, you might be able to figure out the attorney name with a secondary Google search.
I would find the head of the UFT and bring your daughter to his office and wait for him. No response, go to his home, call his wife, anything. I'd never suggest something like this normally but desperate times call for desperate measures.
I'd contact every UFT official and every rep in Albany you can. I think it will be much easier finding someone go to bat for you rather than trying after you may lose job.
