When I lived in the city I used to wear black or grey when I went to the outer boroughs so I wasn't wearing gang colors.

Joke I heard recently:

Q: Why do New Yorkers wear so much black?
A: They can't find anything darker.

It's a NYC and LA deal. Go black and you'll never go back. Oh wait, that is another analogy. But it's true in this case as well.

I've always worn black, even before I moved to NYC. I typically wear darker colors only. I guess I'm like the Danes.

Philly doesn't make the top 10 anymore.

Curiously, NYS is getting fat pretty fast but of all it's counties the one that remains skinny is New York County, aka Manhattan.
Many New York counties have high obesity rates despite easy access to fitness (Compare each county) | syracuse.com
Can it be that 6 blocks to the subway?

No. I think New Yorkers tend to be very colorful with their clothes. I was in Chicago one weekend and noticed how almost everyone had on black or dark colors.
