I'm sure tourists spent thousands flocking to NYC and would rather eat Mall quality Chinese than ethnic Chinese food in Chinatown.

So would i. After experiencing the bathrooms in a few well known chinatown places i would never go back.

The worst highway bathroom i ever saw was cleaner . It does not instill a warm and fuzzy feeling about the food and sanitary conditions

Great thing about being a new yorker is that we develop 3rd world stomachs. Getting sick from eating is a minor issue.

Chinatown food sucks now anyway, Flushing is where all the good food is at now. Chinatown's food quality has been going downhill steadily the past two decades to the point where I'm sure Panda Express is probably better than half of all the restaurants there. I can't even remember the last time I was there to eat mediocre Chinese food. I guess when the average Chinese resident is like 99 years old and everyone else going to eat there is either a transplant or coming from NJ the food can suck butt and smell like it too and no one can tell the difference.

Haven't the tourists already been flocking to Ruby Foos and wait til PF Changs arrives.

There are many more options for decent Chinese food these days. There are a couple of places in Chinatown even which are good and cheap. Hop Kee is still there and Excellent Pork Chop House (although a bit hit and miss these days on whether the existing owners are still there).

But you can get better Chinese from the local chinese takeaway than Panda Express.

Tons of rich transplants from the suburbs of Rich-consin now making their own authentic Chinese restaurants all over the city. Authenticity doesn't = ethnicity anymore, it = 40 dollar small plates and a crappy instagram account.

Not really "Chinese food" related, but have you ever been in the bathroom of the Popeye's in Chinatown? My God I hope your answer is no. Disgusting, just nasty...

There was one time that I went to the McDonalds in Chinatown in the evening and the area surrounding the toilet had very wet crap, but not quite diarrhea all over the place. You know it was the kind that's wet enough to splatter yet firm enough to stick.
