Today (Sunday) all Long Island beaches are closed due to Hermine.

Ah well with that said they probably have the ferry closed to Fire Island so I won't go today. Damn. Maybe it will be better tomorrow.

There's actually a voluntary evacuation from Fire Island.

So did any bad effects materialize or was it nice and sunny and calm the way it is further inland?

Weather itself both today and yesterday was wonderful in NYC. Some clouds off and on but largely sunny if not a bit cool with a nice breeze. Out in the water however things are different: 'Far From Over': Hermine to Batter Northeast Coast With High Winds, Storm Surges - NBC News

Basically the storm has moved further off shore than predicted so there won't be any heavy rain, but she's causing plenty of activity on the seas, hence all the beach closings through Monday and possibly until Tuesday.

While this does sink some people's Labor Day plans, at least in NYC the mayor ordered beaches to remain open past that traditional end of season date. So there is always next weekend!

Damn, that's the one thing that I miss about NYC, body surfing in a hurricane.

The weather was very nice in the city yesterday. This morning it looks windy which doesn't bode well for the beaches.
