More like after several years of legal/court battles including a messy divorce, caught stealing gas from ConEd, caught stealing wages from employees and so forth the owner wants out and to sell the building.

Midtown property is going for a good penny these days, and while not on "Billionaires Row" 854 and 856 Seventh Avenue are the last two low rise buildings that block and are on corner lots. Around the corner on 55th behind 856 is another low rise building.

Carnegie: great pastrami, but TOOOOOOO doggone expensive!

For me, a great pastrami back in the day was at the late, great Sloan's supermarket, by Police Plaza! A whole lot of pastrami on hero and mustard, at one third the price!

The key to good pastrami or corned beef: Find a good mom and pop deli, somewhere in a neighborhood (outer boroughs, wherever) and ride with it til it dies......!

Jewish delicatessens are on their way out. First of all American my culture is changing in urban areas. Every one is adopting to the LA/SF urban diet culture or tries to mimic it. LA/sf urban culture is about eating vegan, veterinarian or organic.

Not quite. There's been a spate of new/revivalist Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine (about a half dozen in NYC in about as much time) but the portions are generally way less ridiculous than they used to be.

Hard to feel sorry for it - it was always a tourist trap.

The restaurant is closing but their wholesale food preparation operation in Carlstadt, NJ will continue in operation. They ship food products all over the country from there.
