Hi everyone,

What is considered a "good" area in The Bronx? I'm talking about an area where people aren't constantly blasting music, drinking on the streets, etc.

I heard about some new condos being built around East 221 and I was wondering if that's decent or not?

E 221 and what??

That is the Wakefield section I believe. It has hot areas but the whole neighborhood isn't bad. It depends where you are.

Just avoid the following areas they are considered bad.

South of Bedford Park Blvd and West of the Bronx River is ****.

North East Bronx....Wakefield, Gun Hill etc are hot.

Then the South East Bronx with Soundview and spots in Parkchester and Castle hill.

Riverdale, Kingsbridge section west of Broadway(changing, not as good as Riverdale); Kingsbridge Heights north of Ft Independence St and Van Cortlandt Village; Woodlawn; Throgs neck, Pelham bay, Country Club. Morris Park, Pelham Gardens(Eastchester rd area south of Allerton Ave); City Island

I second Bedford Prk. Between Bedford Park and Mosholu and the Concourse and Webster Ave is residential and mostly quiet. Easy transportation too....

Bedford park would not be considered a good area though. Consider that south of it you have one of the worst neighborhoods in the city in Fordham-Bedford. The element creeps up. Bedford park has it's spots. But overall it's more "decent" than good.

For example last night there was a shooting on 198th and Valentine. Is this Bedford park?

Do you realise how bad you just contradicted yourself? You're saying it depends on where you are. Then in the very next sentence you say wakefield, gunihll etc are hot.

There are many blocks within walking distance of gunhill that are actually very nice. Burke, Adee, Oneill pl, Arnow all have very decent and quiet blocks. so it's quite unfair to just label it like it's edenwald...... when was the last time you were on any of the blocks on that side of gunhill?

We all know how it is in this city - you could be in paradise on one block and on the very next block you're in fallujah - you have to be a little bit more specific when describing NHs

Yeah but it's that White Plains Road in the 200's is so BAD that by default the neighborhood gets labled hot. You can only be so far away from WPR. The element spreads remember that.

I be around 227th around Bronxwood. Not bad at all. But again think WPR.

Not really. This applies to the north bronx more than south (below fordham rd). Everything below Fordham rd has really no let up. Lots of bad blocks strung together. The same goes for the 190's below 198th. Then other hoods are like what you described.

I'd also say look into Bedford Park. It does border worse neighborhood, but that's common in this city.
