The people begging in most cases are scam artists, not poor people. I've seen the same individuals doing the same routine with their "NEED A MIRACLE" signs around parts of Manhattan, with their heads in the hands. Whoa is me.... Meanwhile they can be seen routinely smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee from Starbucks. Their coffee is probably more expensive than what I drink, and you're labeling them as poor? That's laughable.
Yes and under what laws can they be locked away long term? Every city I have been to has beggars. As long as they are not violent, it's politically hard to go after them.

For starters, I would personally look into seeing how they can be removed if they are trespassing on private property.
I had thought in Sept, with the polls claiming Hillary was doing so well, that de Blasio would also get reelected. Now I think there's a very good chance he might not be. I think a number of people will sit home, and others may consider voting for someone else.
So who is going to replace de Blasio, if he gets voted out? Anyone here of any strong contenders?
Or do you think he'll be reelected? I think if he actually defies Trump and NYC gets his federal funding cut, he is 100% out of office. He will likely have to submit to Trump and work with him to stand a chance of getting reelected.
If he defies Trump, it'll make his reelection much easier. Trump got very little percentage of the vote in NYC outside of Staten Island.
I don't see a credible challenger at this point. Not to mention things aren't so bad as to necessarily warrant change for most folks (I write this as one who didn't vote for de Blasio and as one who would welcome change, personally).

We are all credible challengers. Dont let the powers to be tell you otherwise. I'm not sure he is even better equipped individually then any of us here on CD.

Yes. People were laughing at Trump's run, and he ended up winning. Someone might rise up out of nowhere and blow de Blasio out of the water. I've not been hearing a lot of de Blasio love.
He might get reelected. I'm not saying he will definitely lose, but what happened with this President election may effect him. The people who voted for him in 2013 might stay home. Or depending on who turns out, they might vote for the opponent.

On the other hand, he could potentially just run against Trump the entire campaign and ease to re-election.
