There's not a big gulf between "giving up" and" retirement." The latter sounds better. I "retired" at 33. But yes, I also "gave up."

sadly, you were born in the wrong ages for being a gay.
Today, some gay people are promoted for being a gay for the sake of "diversity and inclusion", not to mention that their career can easily get ahead of the straights for exactly the same reason that might have held you back: not married and burdened with raising children and free to work/date around the clock.

the difference between retiring and just giving up may boil down to just preparation and preparedness . we retired and were prepared , but if things did not workout we may have just stopped working at some point and just gave up . we would have relocated to cheapsville and made it work .

You are also aware that Trump won the election, and that companies are under no obligation to deal with bull**** diversity now that Trump is saying he will gut the civil rights offices?
