I was talking to an ex-bike messenger from Brooklyn. He said in 1994 he was renting a room for $75 a week in a 'real dive' as he told me.

Can you still rent cheap rooms by the week in Brooklyn? If so who much are now?

Thanks

THat's what AirBnB is for.
You will not get something for $75 though.

WHy higher rents for dives? The powers that be have decreed Brooklyn is HOT.
A lot of the brownstones that used to be 20 bed rooming houses have been bought, emptied, gutted and transformed into multi-million dollar mansions.

There are still some legal (and illegal) SROs left in NYC. Doubt $75/wk would happen. Just read an article about one getting priced out and closing, they were charging $425-500/mo.
