Hello, I am coming into the city from Long Island the day after Christmas, Monday Dec 26, how will the city be? Would you advise driving or mass transit. I have a feeling it will be quiet but am not sure.

Many Thanks!

I'd always advise mass transit when going into NYC. Why deal with cost and hassle of car? Just park in Brooklyn and take the ferry!

Monday is the official holiday for New York City and State government (Christmas falls on a Sunday and peeps have to have that holiday day, *LOL*), and many private offices/business (outside of retail/service, hospitals, etc....) are closed as well. As such traffic should be lighter than a normal Monday. However much might depend on where you are going in the City and what time.

In general traffic is lighter than normal the week between Christmas and New Years in Manhattan. Many take those days off for an extended vacation so you have less people working/coming into the City.

If you are coming in for shopping, to see a show or something, then there you may have company. Ditto for any of the high volume tourist areas such as Times Square.
