What happens to singles , that meet someone and start a family, are they obligated to move, or hold on to a deal?

It used to be called IRAK , the nickname of Lefrak City.

Elmhurst is mostly Asian, you are very right, but Also many Russian and other European immigrants as well.

It is not such a good thing to be right next to the Mall, the temptation to shop on impulse is too great! And this is such a big deal, Look at the retail in Flushing, all those apartments above the Target on College Point Blvd., great views, over priced and very depressing. Also, those apartments above the Costco/ Marshals shopping complex , no real neighborhood feel!

Totally understand. We're taking a studio because that's what we can afford in NYC. If we could get more than a studio, we would!

^ Lol what a joke, so NYers who live here must give up their apt for entitled non-NYers?

So gentrification is suddenly a rite to passage for all non-NYers?

All my relatives and family owned properties in NYC and have no reasons to sell as long as suckers like you or the OP keep on coming.

You can gentrify the leases but not the title on the property. Enjoy the high rents.

I grew up in the city and am still here my friend.

Do you know what rent control is? What does rent control have to do with ownership? What does rent control have to do with gentrification? Rent control hurts NY'ers just as much as it hurts transplants.

If you own property, rent control isn't in your interest anyway. I have no idea what your post is supposed to mean. lol

We’re looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in a safe neighborhood with grocery stores nearby and a train station that will take us to midtown (around empire state building) in about 30 minutes.

We’ve been looking at Inwood, West Harlem, Queens (Sunnyside, Woodside, Astoria, LIC), or Brooklyn (any safe area within a reasonable distance from our workplaces).

A mutual friend has an available studio (650 sq ft) in Elmhurst for $1300. Gas, heat, and water are included. The apartment is off the EMR line near the Woodhaven station (near the Costco). It’s on 59th north of the Long Island Expressway.

The place is a bit deeper into Queens than we would have liked but if this is a steal, then’d we’re willing to take it.

Do you think the place is a steal?
If the apt. is in decent shape and within a 10 minute walk of the local subway stop, I would definitely if it serious consideration if I were the OP.

The apartment is in Queens. Elmhurst, Queens. The Woodhaven stop is on the Queens blvd subway line, so the trip to Midtown is quite easy/convenient.
