The only thing holding NYC back are the housing projects (New York: real estate, how much)

There is no way to discuss housing in NYC and not discuss race. The joke is on you. The housing projects are mostly Black and Latino. The demographics of individual projects may vary, but there's a strong correlation between race and poverty, especially in NYC. It doesn't mean every single poor person is Black, or that every single Black person is poor (or Latino) but anyone who says that race isn't there when discussing poverty in NYC is LYING.
Btw, people on forums will sometimes speak in code words, because to blatantly say things in outright racist terms can get one banned. So they won't say empty the city of Blacks, but we all know that's what the OP meant.
No, you (and others) chose to bring race into this. It didn't need to. Some people see race in everything. There's blacks in all facets of NYC. We could discuss subways and it could end up being about race or racism. We could discuss tolls and it could end up being about race or racism. If your mind is on race, then that's what you will always see.
If there is a better example of race baiting then saying "projects dwellers" need to be "caged up and shipped off somewhere else", I'd like to see it.
Let's be real here.
Or maybe the OP just has a problem with the project dwellers, regardless of race. Why read into something that isn't there and not take what somebody says at face value?

Interesting point...
Why don't we just ask the OP what he meant? I'm sure he loves, appreciates and respects people of color.

You never know. He/she might even be a person of color him/herself. In which case, all you people jumping to conclusions and labeling people will sound foolish.
you should IM him so we can get his take. He's already added so much to this discussion and seems ready willing and able to have an intelligent conversation about this important topic.

Clearly there's race involved when you talk about NYCHA. There's no way of avoiding it . And you're being dishonest in saying that there's no link between poverty and race in NYC, and in denying the majority of people in NYCHA are not of color.
Chicago destroyed it's housing projects, and now has a murder rate three times that of NYC's. They destroyed the projects, but resettled the residents in working class suburbs and working class neighborhoods of Chicago, which then became crime ridden ghettoes.
No other municipality is going to let NYC dump it's housing projects on them, and you cannot give people an one way ticket to another place if they have no place to stay.
Great post
