Within the last 15 years, there has been a significant increase of Chinese and other Asians in the public housing developments in NYC.
The Lower East Side NYCHA Housings of course already has a lot thanks to them being near Chinatown.
However, even in East Harlem some of the Public Housings are now getting more Chinese.
In Brooklyn, the Marlboro houses in Bensonhurst and in Coney Island, the NYCHA developments are getting significant increase of Chinese and Asians.
In some northern sections of Brooklyn like Fort Greene Areas and near the Manhattan/Brooklyn Bridges and even Carroll Gardens area, there is a noticeable amount of them in those NYCHA developments.
Has anyone notice any increase of Asians in any NYCHA developments?
The last 10 months or so I have seen a big crowd of old chinese people waiting in line in east harlem for something once in a while. I don't know what they are waiting for, but I never used to see more than 1-2 asians around here at a time.
Edit: Although I still almost never see many asians except in this one particular spot (near 118th and 1st or 2nd ave)
I have noticed this over the last several years in Brooklyn. It's interesting to ride the J/M train into Brooklyn from Chinatown and see middle-aged and elderly chinese people riding for points far from Chinatown.

Yes, *somebody* has noticed and spoke out about it! *LOL*
Weird. This might explain something I saw a few months ago that I thought was very strange and couldn't figure out. Early on a Sunday afternoon I saw a bus full of Chinese people...probably 40 or 50 of them..getting off the bus and walking into the grounds of The Pelham Parkway Houses.
Pelham Parkway is pretty deep into The Bronx and there has been quite an influx of Chinese people moving into the neighborhood ( and adjacent Morris Park) in the last 5 years or so but even so I thought it was very weird that there was a bus load of them filing into the project. It's a very nice project as projects go but the whole scene made we feel something weird was up. It looked like they were being given a guided orientation tour.
There are advocacy groups who do seem to gather "their own" to make the process easier for them and direct them to various developments and provide services like language translation, security deposit subsidies, etc..

what kind of bus? Like one of those old charter buses that they use for $10 rides to DC and Boston?

Don't poop on me for saying this, but what is a better investment? 400 dollars for an SAT prep course? or a pair of 400 dollar sneakers.
How'd you go from NYCHA projects to $400 sneakers? What's wrong with your mind?
All this phenomenon shows is that no single group is immune from receiving and accepting handouts. Whether they be white, black, Chinese, Russian, Orthodox Jews, Spanish, etc.
Knowing the organizations within the Chinese community this doesn't surprise me. Like many immigrant groups that come from authoritarian and bureaucratic countries, they know how to work the system.
Brooklyn heights senior housing is full of Asians who don't speak English. Yet we have American born people homeless. Makes me sick. And why all Asians dig through trash for cans? They are ruining Brooklyn heights.
