In November of 2016, DeBlasio announced a mayoral order which indicates that:

"Important changes to the policies include ending developers and leasing agents’ ability to deny applications based solely on credit scores."

Does this mean that leasing agents can no longer deny you an apartment based on your credit score?
Does anyone have recent experience of being denied an apartment based on their credit?

There is a link to the mayoral order below..

Yes, they can no longer deny you based on a credit score alone. They need to give a substantive reason for refusing you based on credit. The list of acceptable substantive reasons to refuse someone based on credit is here: http://www1.nyc.gov/assets/hpd/downl...n-Criteria.pdf

The ruling applies to the affordable 80/20 program, not apartment leasing in general.

Wait... not all developments shown on the NYC Housing Connect site are 80/20. Some of them are all affordable. Does this apply to all of those developments as well?

Yes, there are developments that are all affordable. They are pretty rare though. I would guess that the guidelines apply to those too.

I think you can only change your household size in stances of marriage, divorce, birth or extentuating circumstances like domestic violence, all of which you will have to prove with documents. There's a Marketing Handbook, updated in October 2016, that you should Google and read (don't have the link handy). All of this is explained, and it takes away a lot of the mystery in this process, although it still remains pretty bewildering.
