So I saw yesterday that they are going to raise metrocard fares soon. And then tonight, I waited for an hour and 15 minutes for a B38 bus at Adams street downtown The arrogance of this city never fails to astound me. If you're going to keep raising fares, at least provide decent service you schmucks.

it doesn't. The State controls the MTA. Take it up with Albany.

I noticed something weird on the day of the storm. I have a EZ pay pay per ride thing -- the kind that you attach a credit card to and it constantly refills it, but you're still paying for each ride. Anyway, my rides always cost $2.75 when I check after the fact. Except on Tuesday they only charged me $2.50 for each trip (I took a train and bus to my destination and a train and bus back and was charge $2.50 twice.) I wondered if they did that instead of the $2.75 since they wiped out most of the transit system with the storm. The only people it would benefit would be people like me with a pay per ride. If you have a monthly, you'd be out of luck.

Although really everyone was out of luck. I couldn't have cared less about the 25 cent credits. I would have preferred to have the aboveground trains running since I live closest to an aboveground. I had to walk the extra 7 minutes to get to the Queens Blvd line underground.

I didn't notice a fare reduction because I stayed cooped up in the apartment except for a walk to the wine store nearby (Mr Wright.) Walking, even just a couple blocks was no fun.
Yesterday I needed to ride the subway and it was the normal $1.35 fare.

It's a punishing regressive tax on poor people.

Yeah because the City is completely innocent. That idiot de Blasio and his Vision Zero plan has made traffic even worse, thus the buses run behind scheduled constantly, so yes, take it up with the City and that buffoon we have in office.

It's the MTA getting away with it. And they can get away with it because most of their customers have no choice. Although lately, the ride sharing apps (Uber, Lyft, etc.), have been making a small dent in the MTA's ridership.

Yes it is.
The MTA should be free to everyone and fully supported by the general state and City income tax revenue that should be a PROGRESSIVE tax, unlike what it is today.

....And slow bus service, which the City does influence... Albany had nothing to do with Vision Zero.
