What is really egregious is that almost every other government's personal cars have dark tint. Go walk to any local NYPD or FDNY and you will see almost every other personal car have very dark tints. Also abusing the whole parking placard nonsense...some don't even bother putting a placard and put a shield on the windshield daily.

Even one of my neighbor is a volunteer fireman has limo tints on his 2 personal cars. Imagine him using his sirens turned on blowing red lights with windows he can't see outside

The law does not state they get a pass.

Those personal vehicles should not be able to pass inspection.

They may retint right after and likely not get ticketed from other LEO, but it would be a pain in the ass annually to untint- then retint your windows.

This tint thing is not a criminal offense. They are doing this so they can have probable cause to justify stopping you, and ticketing you for whatever they please. It is called leverage.

There is no reason for police to drive with black windows, or bent license plates.

There is a right to privacy, a right to comfort. We as voters need to keep on top of things, losing our rights , giving them up, out of laziness.

As it is now, cops can say whatever they want, take you out of your car, and illegal search you. No rights! Officer safety? who holds a gun and taser?

Just keep it at 15 0/0, buckle up, and make sure your papers are in order.

Keep an eye out for them to ban recording police interaction. This recording saves your but in court, because of sneaky police work. They are trying to ban this now, due to officer safety, and not being able to do there jobs. Recording things, will teach them a lesson that they cant still remove you from your car, and snoop around.

My head hurts from still trying to figure out why they allow great tint level on back passenger side windows for SUV, Vans, Mini Vans and Truck? Why this does not applies to Cars as well. God damn why?...

As for as inspection, go to the guy you know, who only runs inspection off the odb computer plug. No check engine light, you pass!

The law is 15 0/0 all windows but the windshield. Cars manufactured and sold in NY are exempt, dealer usually provides first inspection and paperwork, and cant sell a defective new car.

The dirt bag shops that nitpick on inspection should get no business.

There are way Too many shops to get caught, for tints, there will be no police around the corner checking or harrassing a business owner, for tints.

NYC tint law is enforced to protect our police officers...

-Police officer Russel Timoshenko back in 2007 was fatally shot after approaching a stolen SUV (MPV) with tinted windows.

Here is what is allowed in New York window tint law:

Cars, Trucks, and MPVs *Note: MPV means Multi Passenger Vehicles which are Vans and SUVs

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows
Must allow more than a total of 70% light in.

Back Side Windows Must allow more than a total of 70% light in. *(MPVs allow any light transmission)
Rear Window Any VLT can be applied legally on this window. *(MPVs allow any light transmission)

Oh, what a F*$king joke this law is... I guess whoever wrote and passed this, did not bother to read it over to see if it makes any sense.

Aint protecting anyone. Police have been ambushed sitting in their car, in broad daylight!

Police use "officer protection" thing any time the want the law to work in their favor. As we speak today, there are still illegal check points set up around the city, just to look in your car, and find a reason to intrude in your space.

"Oh, i cant see what is going on in your car" , "you have something to hide?" Pretty soon, you cant have window blinds.
